Give up, David. My daughter and I have been working on this puzzle for awhile and finally found an admission of guilt on the Adobe support website:
"Support for IPv6... Contribute now supports connecting to your websites or blogs that are residing on a server with IPv6 configured...
New Blogger support... Blogger has enhanced its protocol and lot of other blog clients including Contribute 4 cannot now connect to blogger blog accounts.. this has been fixed in this release which now supports new blogger accounts.."
So what they are saying is that the Macromedia Contribute 4 is too out of date for the protocol used by Blogger. However the new (buy it again!) Adobe Contribute will support the protocol.
